Christmas at West End Gallery



It is nearly Christmas, but it is not to late to get some lovely original gifts from West End Gallery. We are still exhibiting a range of artists in the 'Big Little Picture Show'. 
Our cabinets hold hand-made jewellery, felt work and Christmas ceramics.



Here at West End Gallery, we have several limited edition prints for sale by Paul Hainsworth. His work features Leicester Tigers Rugby Club and Leicester City Football Team. The colourful, fun and beautiful crafted images would make a great gift for any football or rugby fan.

Thank you to  everyone who  has supported West End Gallery this year.

The Big Little Picture Show


 On Friday 8th November and we were delighted to welcome a number of artists and visitors to the preview evening for our new exhibition the 'Big Little Picture Show', featuring a diversity of work, from local talented artists






















Handmade Cushions for sale or made to order by local makers - unique patterns from Decorative Art Prints, detailed Rams Skull print by Jennie McCall and exquisite felt cushions by Alison Linnell.

On display, in the cabinets are some unusual gifts ideas for Christmas, hand-crafted by local  Leicestershire makers- Jewellery by Tessa McCall, felt by Alison Linnell, textiles by Bridget  Hawkridge, ceramics by Jennie McCall, Jenny Sala and Gerry Unsworth.

Wednesday 23rd October

Have fun making fabulous felt with Alison Linnell,
choose from bright colours of wool and design and create a picture.


Thursday 24th October
BE CREATIVE
Experience watercolour with artist and illustrator Ian Mitchell.
Be experimental with colour washes and practice drawing into the colour with a brush
Ian is happy for adults to join their children on this workshop.
£10.00 per person.


Friday 25th October
BE EXPERIMENTAL
Explore clay and extend your modelling skills.
Use you imagination to create unusual underwater creatures


Cost of half Term Workshops £10.00 per child per session.

Winter Warmers - Felt Workshop in the gallery


Winter Warmers  - the  latest Felt workshop at West End Gallery with Leicestershire Maker, Alison Linnell.

The project, Felted slippers - perfect for the start of this cold spell and wintry season. There was a great atmosphere as usual, as the group worked industriously but creatively throughout. and great results (very bespoke) from all. Lovely home cakes supplied by Alison.

Summer activities for children.


                 A Family Watercolour Class

Saturday 3rd August 10.30 am - 12.30 pm

BE INSPIRED as you learn with artist and illustrator, Ian Mitchell.


BE EXPERIMENTAL as you use washes and practice drawing into the colour with a brush. 
BE EXCITED as you have fun with watercolour to create images.

This Watercolour session is for children and those parents wishing to take part.

                          Tuesday 13th August   -  Create in Mod-roc

BE HANDS ON as you learn how to form a recognizable object using Mod-Roc.
BE CREATIVE as you choose how to decorate your sculpted form.
BE EXCITED as you see the miniature welly boot take shape.

The finished welly makes a great pencil pot.




Wednesday 14th  August  - Make a felt Picture


BE EXCITED as you choose from a selection of beautiful merino wool.
BE EXPERIMENTAL as you learn about the traditional craft of felting,by wetting, rubbing and rolling wool.
BE CREATIVE as you add your own design ideas and practise new techniques to build an attractive picture.


Thursday 15th August - Create a Circus Tile 


BE INSPIRED as you develop your ideas based on the Big Top and Circus Acts.
BE EXPERIMENTAL as you practise using tools and learn new techniques,rolling a flat tile and creating shapes and interesting textures.
BE EXCITED as you develop your ideas in relief onto clay.




Friday 16th August - Watercolour Painting

This session is just for children.

BE EXCITED as you experience the magic of watercolour.
BE EXPERIMENTAL as you mix colours, apply washes.
BE INSPIRED as you use colours and create your own images, using some of the techniques you've practiced..





WEEK 2

MONDAY 20TH AUGUST - Make a King or Queen

BE INSPIRED by kings and Queens 
BE EXPERIMENTAL as you practice using tools and learn to make a thumb pot.
BE EXCITED as you develop your ideas in form, shape and texture onto clay.





TUESDAY 21ST AUGUST - Create a Rock Pool - multi-media picture.

BE INSPIRED as you take a look at what lies in rock pools.
BE IMAGINATIVE as you combine the objects and creatures you see to build your own picture.
BE EXPERIMENTAL with pastels, paint, print and collage to create this summery image. 




WEDNESDAY 22ND AUGUST - Felt Pebbles

BE INSPIRED- as you choose the colours of wool for your pebble shape.
EXPLORE the craft of wet felting as you learn how to make a beautiful felted object.
BE CREATIVE as you learn how to make interesting patterns with the coloured wool.
BE EXCITED - as you watch the pebbles take shape and you create an attractive pebble stack or paper weight.
